The short answer

What that means for you

If you are a woman over 60

Eight in ten men on the site in this region are over 55, and most of those are in their late sixties or seventies. You are unlikely to be swamped by messages from men half your age, which is a common complaint on the mainstream apps. Set your age range to the decade you want and you should see a reasonable choice.

If you are a man over 60

About one woman in four here is over 55, a higher share than in London or the North West. Women make up a little under half of the members over 55, so the balance is closer than many men expect. A distance of twenty to twenty-five miles from central Birmingham takes in most of the conurbation, from Walsall and Dudley to Solihull and Sutton Coldfield.

First dates around the region

The canal towpaths running out from Brindleyplace in central Birmingham are level, busy and lined with cafés, which makes them an easy first walk. Cannon Hill Park and the Ikon Gallery, which is free, are two more relaxed options in the city. In Coventry, the ruins of the old cathedral beside the new one are moving to visit and open to all.

Further out, Stratford-upon-Avon is good for an afternoon by the river with a matinée at the theatre if things go well. In Stoke-on-Trent, the Gladstone Pottery Museum in Longton is a proper conversation starter. The Malvern Hills in Worcestershire and Cannock Chase in Staffordshire suit people who like a longer walk, and the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire has a full day of museums.

Our first date ideas for over 60s has more. For anyone in their seventies, dating over 70 answers the questions we are asked most.

Getting about without a car

The West Midlands Metro tram runs between Birmingham and Wolverhampton through West Bromwich and Wednesbury, and local trains link Birmingham with Coventry, Lichfield, Redditch and Stourbridge. If you have reached state pension age, your concessionary pass gives free off-peak bus travel across England, and Transport for West Midlands can tell you where else locally it is accepted. Meeting near a station or a main bus route makes the first date easier for both of you, and easier to leave if it is not going well.
