Over 60s dating in Manchester and the North West

The North West is the second-busiest region on Single 60s, with Manchester and Liverpool at its heart. Join free and see who lives within your reach.

Who you will meet in the North West

After London, more Single 60s members live in the North West than in any other region, and the men here are older than the national average for the site. Nearly nine in ten of our male members in Manchester, Merseyside and the counties around them are 55 or over, and two thirds of those are 65 or older. If you are a woman in your sixties or seventies, the men on this site in the North West are, by and large, your own age.

About one woman in five here is over 55, so men looking for a partner in their sixties should keep the age range a little open at first. Among members over 55, the split between men and women is close to even, at just under half women.

Towns and cities members come from

Manchester is the biggest single town on members' profiles in the region, followed by Liverpool and Wigan, and the rest are spread across the Greater Manchester boroughs, Lancashire and Cheshire. Fewer members live in Cumbria, so if you are in Carlisle, Kendal or the Lakes you will probably want to set your distance to forty miles or more.

The region is well connected for meeting halfway. The M6, M62 and M60 put most of Greater Manchester and Merseyside within an hour of each other, and the trains between Manchester, Liverpool, Preston and Chester are frequent. If you have reached state pension age, your English concessionary bus pass gives you free off-peak bus travel anywhere in England, which covers a lot of first dates.

Places for a first date in the North West

In the cities

Manchester Art Gallery and the Whitworth are free to visit and both have cafés. In Liverpool, the Walker Art Gallery and the museums at the Royal Albert Dock are free, and the waterfront is flat and good for a walk. Chester's city walls make a two-mile circuit with tea rooms at almost every gate.

Out of town

Dunham Massey near Altrincham has a deer park and a café. On the coast, the promenades at Southport and Lytham St Annes are easy, level walks with somewhere to sit at the end. For people who like hills, Windermere and Ambleside in the Lake District are a short drive up the M6, and a lake cruise is a gentle way to spend a first afternoon together.

Clubs and groups worth knowing about

The University of the Third Age (U3A) has branches across Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire, with groups for walking, languages, history and much more. Bowls clubs, rambling clubs and community choirs are common in the towns around Manchester too. Our article on where singles over 60 meet goes through the options in more detail.
